These days when you type in Cecilia on google, one of the auto search suggestion will be Cecilia Gimenez – she is the 80 years old femme fatale whom… er… let’s say brought very new vibe to a historical fresco… I bet she didn’t thought she would become an international sensation.
I consider myself agnostic but I do feel bad to the artist’s granddaughter whom donated this piece, it can be a very good example that explains why artists around the globe were trained. In Australia, many art initiatives were ran by volunteers of artists and art lovers, they are trying to express their creativities while paying the bills, feeding their families, or (like myself) paying for the university debt years after graduation… Art professionals spent years to perfect their skills so they would not create an interesting story like Cecilia’s, while most of them, struggle to survive. My friend Col and his wife Christine once told me, “sometime its a blessing if an artist manage to break-even” – What if there is an business operational format that a larger number of artists can be benefited instead of for example, art competitions having just one (or a few) winner? If only 1 survive, it’s not an art industry, it’s reality TV…
