Object artist Pilz Au Yeung was born and raised in Hong Kong, she is an old friend of mine and after years of persuasion, she has finally agreed to be a bit more extroverted about her works.
Pilz’s works are the channels that her inner psyche communicates with others. By turning metal, crystal and acrylic into experimental and wearable objects, she express the deeper side of her or encourage one to think deeply within themselves.
The picture above is of the centrepiece from the series Frozen Moment, she wrote such a beautiful artist statement and I hope my interpretation does its justice: As we all have milestones in our lives, alongside there are plenty of moments that we remember, eventually constitute the person we are today – they’re these frozen moments that supposed to stay with us for the rest of our lives – but as time fly by, new milestone take place, and we change. Chinese often metaphorise time as flowing water: as these frozen moments being dropped into the flowing water of time, how much memories can we truly hold onto?
Pilz will be part of a group exhibition in Sydney in January 2013, look forward to see you Pilz!
